Full Name: Tir Vallan
Rank: Pirate Captain
Colony of Residence: Caprica
Gender: Male
Age: 57
Birthday: November 13
Height: 7'0"
Weight: 360
Species: Komodo Dragon
Eye color: Black
Fur color: Dusty red scales
Hair color: You're kidding, right?
Markings: His dusty red scales fade to almost black at his hands, feet, and neck.
General Appearance: Appearing at first to be overweight, Tir is actually very heavily muscled. In fact, most of his body weight is muscle. As if that wasn't intimidating enough, he was in possession of some wickedly sharp, long claws, and some equally wicked fangs. His bite was definitely worse than his bark, as the victim of such a bite would suffer from intensely painful venom-induced swelling and bacterial infections, which oftentimes lead to death.
Personality: Cold and bitter. He has a sense of honor, but it has become twisted at what he feels was a major betrayal by his superior officers, back when he was in the military. He tends not to get very close to people, and half the time, when matters don't demand his immediate attention and orders being given to his pirate crew, he tends to let them do as they please. He does run a strict ship, but that strictness is offset by his inattentiveness when he's not needed. There have been several would-be mutineers, however, who mistook his inattentiveness for laxness. They are no longer around to tell anyone of their mistake.
Field(s) of expertise: Combat, leadership, and piloting are his three strong suits. He has always been socially inept, and tends to be blunt and speak his mind at times where others would be wise enough to keep their mouths shut. Perhaps it's because of his strong suits that he doesn't care what others think of him. Whatever it is, he is more skilled at close combat than ranged combat, but he isn't exactly inept with a gun, either.
History: Formerly an Admiral in the colonial fleet. One of his engineers masterminded a radio transciever which would function in more secure wavelengths, only to find that someone on his ship was already transmitting radio signals in those bands. They tracked down the transmitter, only to find that the transmitter was one of their own crewmates. Interrogation proved useless, and acting on gut instinct, Tir had the spy executed after discovering that the signals were being broadcast into Cylon space.
Without hard evidence that the man was a spy, and lacking the authority to have a prisoner executed during a time of peace without a more proper trial, Tir was sentenced to execution. Some of his crew remained loyal to him, and risked dishonorable discharges to help him escape. Together, he and his crew took over a Battlestar, and between threats and promises, they formed an uneasy team of pirates.
Tir retained contacts within the military, contacts who helped smuggle supplies and ammunition to him. Over the year between his turn to the life of a pirate and when the Cylons first attacked, he established a base on a small moon and recruited several other pirates to his cause.
After the Cylons attacked, it became clear that they would be the superior targets, rather than the military, as it was now the Cylons who controlled many of the resources in the universe, whereas the military and those civvies flocking around the military were forced to scrounge or make their own food.
Going back farther in his history, one may realize that Tir grew up during the original Cylon war... It was because of that war that Tir joined the military, but by the time he was old enough, the war was effectively over. He has been waiting for their return ever since, and would have found some excuse to turn his ship--the Firestorm--against the Cylons.
Other Notes: After the Cylon invasion, the Firestorm has been re-armed with different kinds of cannons and space-fighters...
