The Pit is closed until further notice.
Alrighty everyone, this is going to be the general information thread. Feel free to post questions here, PM me, or contact me on IM. Suggestions for events are welcome, but should be posted in the suggestions thread.
Technology:
The technology level for this RP is going to be about the same as the HE tech level.
Location:
The Pit is located in a forest, hidden from easy view due to the somewhat illegal activities the owner is involved in. There are several paths to follow from different areas and towns surrounding the Pit. Most people find out about it by word of mouth.
Occupational options:
There are a variety of options in this RP. Zopa, the owner, does more than just run an underground fighting arena. He is something of a crimelord. He runs several brothels, thieving bands, assassins, and who knows what else. All of his ‘employees’ give him a percentage of what they make, this is how he gets the prize money for the Pit. You can be anything you want to be. You can work for Zopa, just be a fighter with a real job back in town, you can even be a copper who’s trying to find the Pit and pin stuff on Zopa. It doesn’t matter! Be what you want to be!
Aside from the work outside the Pit, there is also work to be had within the Pit. There are guardsmen, weapons check-in, bet keepers (I forget what they’re actually called...), janitorial staff (the Pit won’t keep itself clean), even medical staff.
Job descriptions:
Guardmen/bouncers- these people keep things from getting out of hand. They often wander the halls to be sure no one is where they are not supposed to be. They guard every entrance and provide the beef to back up the weapons check-in people. They speak and act for Zopa. They have the authority to kick anyone out of the Pit for misconduct without consulting anyone else. They are also responsible for making sure that none of the fights go overboard. If Zopa gives the signal, they go in to break up the fight before one of the fighters is killed or too badly injured. They do a lot of work, and Zopa makes sure to pay them well lest they mutiny.
Weapons Check-in- these people operate a booth at every entrance to the Pit. Everyone is require to check in all their weapons. The only exceptions to this are the fighters. They may keep their bladed weapons, but only if they are fighting that day. If they are not fighting, then they too must check in ALL weapons. The Check-in people tag and lock away all the weapons. Keep your half the tag. If you can’t provide it when you leave, you don’t get your weapon back. These people are paid well also since it is deemed to be very important to keep everyone unarmed unless they need it in their prescribed fight.
Bet Keepers: It is possible to place bets on the fighters. These are the people you go to lay your bets and collect your money should you win. It doesn’t pay as well as some other jobs, and most will have a second job elsewhere.
Janitorial staff: pretty self explanatory. They collect garbage, clean up blood on the arena floor and the like. Not a good paying job, but it’s a job none the less.
Medical staff: very important job. These people are responsible for making sure that everyone walks back out of the Pit alive and in one piece. They can set broken bones and stitch up gashes. They are paid very well. Zopa doesn’t want anyone to die on their way home and it possibly be traced back to him. The Medical staff are very good and can do almost anything medically possible.
The fights
Fights can be signed up for or privately arranged. Every now and then there may be a large competition which will require signing up to participate. Fighters that put their name on a list will be paired with people of their same gender, and as close to height-weight ratio as can be managed for fairness purposes.
Zopa watches all the fights. If he deems any action unsuitable (*coughgodmoddingcough*), he will send the guardsmen/bouncers in to break up the fight and escort the offender out. The offender will not be permitted back into the arena for a short probationary period of one week. After which they will be permitted to sign up for fights again. Actions that might be considered godmodding will be taken to other mods for consideration, if they agree with me, then action will be taken.
Each fight will be a separate thread to keep down on confusion. You may only be in one fight at a time, but several fights may be written at once. You do not have to wait for one fight to be over with before yours starts unless it's part of a series of match fights in competition. Much as I like the use of liquid time on some forums, in this case, and with our numbers, it’ll only cause more confusion if it's used too freely.
Important NPCs and their use:
Zopa Demenosi - the owner of The Pit, he's a white tiger and is a known criminal. He has his fingers in just about every crime imaginable. He operates brothels, takes a percentage from thieves and assassins, and who knows what else. He also lends money, but has an extremely high interest rate.
I am the only one that will control Zopa unless you talk to me ahead of time and we work out a special deal.
Guardsmen/bouncers - these can be used fairly freely if you aren't one yourself. just keep in mind that they are absolutely loyal to Zopa and are very, VERY hard to bribe, like almost impossible.
Other fighters/spectators: feel free to create random other people, just remember not to use other people's characters without their permission.
