Full Name: Shanaelen d'Mishalan d'Kota
Honorifics/Nicknames: Shani, Shan
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Birthday: July 8 (Cancer)
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 110~114 lbs
Species: Spotted hyena
Eye color: Blue-grey
Fur color: Light, tawny brown
Hair color: Orange-red
Markings: Dark patches around her eyes; spots scattered across her back, outer thighs, and upper arms. A thin scar runs through her right eyebrow.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
General Appearance: Shani looks pretty much like a common spotted hyena, color-wise. Her fur grows darker towards her hands and feet and the fur on her tail is dark brown despite her red mane. Her hair is waist-length and slightly wavy, especially towards the tips, due to her braiding it before going to bed. She will wear it up in a bun or ponytail, leaving her long bangs loose, during work or if the situation requires, but she prefers to leave it free of any hairstyle. What she wears depends on how she feels that day, but whatever it is, from underwear to shoes, it must be comfortable, so her style generally lands between skater girl and trippie. Basically, a tomboy. But rather than a sporty, boisterous one, she's like the handsome intellectual nerdy guy. She also owns a pair of glasses, since she's a bit nearsighted, but seldom wears them. In build she is very thin, almost delicate, and naturally it comes as a surprise to many when they see (or feel) her hugging strength. She looks (and acts) younger than she really is, and people often take her to be in her mid-teens.
Cyberization: None
Vernacular: Standard mid-western American. In other words – no accent. She can also speak a few foreign tongues, as well as translate them.
Personality: She's often viewed to be anywhere from "self-centered and rude" to "sweet and charming", based on the opinions she's gathered, those being differing even from her own mother. That is mostly because of how hard it is to understand her nature. At first glance, Shani is shy and quiet, keeping to herself to the point of being deemed as aloof. She's actually quite friendly and even open if one gets to know her, but it's hard to get past her shell. Following a personal code, she's loyal and self-disciplined but has her own views of what's right and wrong and tends to listen only to her own analysis of a person or situation. She is honest to a fault, a little mischievous, lazy and, in a sense, a tomboy, yet can be lady-like when she wants to be. She is neither girly nor boy-crazy and can't stand anyone who is; most of her friends are guys for that reason. She believes in science and all things logical, and can get annoying and argumentative. She prefers to deal with her enemies through tact rather than brute strength. Of course that tact usually consists of arguing with them or not speaking at all. She likes (smart) children and admires older, accomplished people but has a great lot of trouble getting along with peers who have yet to find their place in the world.
History: Her family is one of the rare few who still live in the ancient clan formation where matronymic names are passed down. Shani's mother, Mishalan, was the sister of the Kota clan's matriarch. The small clan is nomadic and knowing several languages was mandatory. Shani never learned language outside the family and has no special degrees for it, and has never learned psychology outside her own reasoning. Honor and chivalry hold a high place in her clan and to an outsider, Shani would be reminiscent of a knight from times past, save for her scientific knowledge. Life in the outside world was frustrating, to say the least, and she was only happy for a chance to go to outer space and further her studies.
Field(s) of expertise: Applied linguistics, psychology, astronomy.
Pastimes: Drawing, reading, music, studying languages. Has a love for arts and culture.
Phobias: Hydrophobia – fear of deep water or drowning. Also has an issue with other people handling knives or sharp objects.
