While her husband was on patrol, Hikaru and her colleagues at the computer lab were at the market looking for more computer parts or any type of electronics, which can be used to improvise, such as video equipment. A Teletype machine would be cool too. What they really want are SCSI drives and boards which use the EISA bus or any other bus commonly used for a backplane for that matter.
As always, they brought their tools and test equipment with them. Their test equipment is a double-edged sword. When traders see their merchandise being tested, there is little room for haggling. On the other hand, they know they are buying something which works or can be fixed.

- City Guard, make way, step aside. City Guard, passing through.
A tall, tan guy in a cowboy's hat was moving through the crowd. He held his badge high, in case people won't recognize the hat. One way or another, he quickly made it to Angel, Fox and the twins.
- Okay, folks, - He turned to the crowd, - City Guard's here. We take care of the rest, you can keep going.
- The boy has a metal head! - Someone said.
- And I have a brass bagde, so what's your point? - Responded the guard. - It's the city's busyness now, and none of yours.
The people started to dissipate. After all, they still had shopping to do.
- Rico to Chaffer, - The guard spoke into the radio. - I've found the target. Situation under control.
"Good. Keep in touch." - The radio replied.
Turning to face Angel, the guy tipped his hat.
- Sergeant Rico, ma'am. Sorry for the incident. How bad were you hurt?
Angel looked at Fox, as if wanting his opinion before answering quietly:
- We need help.
It was an understatement. Although the wound was bandaged over, her shirt was torn open at the shoulder and both it and the shoulder itself were red from blood.
- Where is a doctor? - Fox interrupted.
- A doctor? - She asked quietly, stepping behind Fox, unrest clear in her voice.
Fox looked a bit surprised at this, but smiled and gently placed his hand on her head. 'Don't worry, I'm here' his expression said.
- Doctor Holliday's clinic is that way, - The guard replied, pointing east. - The sheriff would like to speak with you concerning this incident. I'll tell him to meet you there. - He pressed a button on his radio. - Sheriff, come in sheriff. This is Rico.
"Go ahead Rico, what do you want?" came through the radio.
- I'm escorting the subjects to Holliday's clinic. The girl has been shot. The boy doesn't respond.
"A boy?" the speaker was apparently surprised. "Are you sure? Ok, I'll be right there."
-----------------------------------------
"Rico to Chaffer, I've found the target. Situation under control."
- Good. Keep in touch. - Replied the guard. His radio spoke again, in a different voice:
"Billy, I've got the shooter. There's one old man here, he defused the riot... Somehow."
- Perfect. I'll meet you at the prescinct.
Bill Chaffer wiped his brow. It was a hard day, and the Bazaar month was nowhere near it's end. Bill shook his head.
The guard watched the leader of those strange traders. Yura walked to the back of his truck, alone. This could be just the right oppotunity. Bill lit his cigarette and walked to the trader.
- Hey, - He said, offering the light, - I'm Bill Chaffer, City Guard. We've heard your announcement and wondered if you take jobs. The city's got a few well-payed ones to offer.
Something perked up from under the truck. There was a... Figure, all wrapped in clothes, at the side of the vehicle. "How did I miss it?" Bill thought, startled.
GM says: I've decided that I can only handle two groups of people at a time. And I will choose the largest/most active one, like Yura's (Yura, Mirka, Kawako, Edwin) or Angel's (her, Fox, the twins). So if your char "strays from the path", they are on their own. Like Sprangler and Hikaru.
The first part of the post is a collaboration of yours truly, Sinclair and Astrid Hofferson, so all characters were used with permission.

Away from the market, Deputy Pointer is patrolling other areas of the settlement in a Crown Vic about half his age. So far everything's going the way he likes it on a Sunday afternoon, quiet. However, as always, he has his ears on and what he's hearing is making him a bit antsy. Arik gets on the radio. "This is Deputy Pointer. I don't like what I'm hearing. This does not sound like the usual bar fight."
"Pointer," the sheriff says, "you're right. It's been an interesting day at the market but as you heard, the situation's under control. How's it going where you are?"
"Quiet."
"Tell me, old man, can you enjoy a Sunday drive?"
Arik chuckles. "I can give it a shot."
"Good. Sheriff out."

Lea has gone completely silent by now, her eyes glazing over slightly. She carries the crossbow, but limply, like it's far too heavy for her. She walks when directed, but slowly, as if it takes unimaginable effort to take each step. But the worst part: After the mumbled 'I can't hear him.', she hasn't said a single word.
And then Leo stirs.
Immediately, Lea snaps upright, holding the crossbow as if ready to shoot. She looks normal again, eyes sharp and keen, step swift. Leo lets go of Angel and immediately lurches unsteadily for his sister, who lowers the crossbow and catches him. She supports his weight, communicating all that had occurred while he was unconscious.
He looks unsteadily at the Deputy, then back as his sister. Leo begins. "I cannot see clearly..." "...because his head spins." Lea finishes.

Memmon found what he was looking for in the market, a rusty old mountain bike that was functional, and a couple flowers that he put in his pocket as he headed back to the hotel, and was soon arriving there. It alarmed him that it looked like the traders were about to leave, so he had to act fast. He saw Gabrielle there, and without any introduction simply said "Lets go, I was wrong, the traders are going to go soon." he said urgently, but a small smile on his face.

"Glad to have ya on board!" Mirka said after mentally listing over Kawako's abilities and considering them worthy. As she and the new member shared a handshake, Yura had already moseyed off towards the back of the truck, no doubt thinking that they'd be better off being called "Mirka's Traders".
The sudden "pop" of a gun being fired echoed through the market, silencing people, and even putting a grave expression on Mirka's face. Someone was firing not too far from where they were. This sort of thing happened so often that you'd never read about it in the newspaper the next day. After the second shot made its dry popping sound, Mirka spun around to try to find out what the commotion was about, just in time to see Edwin making his way towards them. She was glad that he wasn't involved in the shooting, but the look on her face only showed anger at him for entering the town on his own and not waiting for them.
"That's Eddie, our other partner," she said laconically, turning to Kawako, just before Yura urged them to hurry up and get going. Must be because of the gunshots, she figured. "Sounds like you're starting right now, Kaw," she said, leading the bird mutant towards the back of the truck where she could store her dead birds and backpack. She tried to ignore the singing that started soon after and concentrate on not leaving anything―or anyone―behind. "It doesn't matter where you decide to sit in the truck, cause it smells either way. You can sit in the front where it smells like alkohol and tabák or you can sit in the back where it smells like wet dog. Take your pick."
After the song finished, Yura urged them on once more. "Jasně," the girl replied, gesturing that she heard him. She walked back to the front of the truck and turned to the nearby surrounding public one last time, "If anyone else was interested, now's the time to join!" Looking over her shoulder back at Yura, she noticed that he was approached by a guard. Pursing her lips, she thought, 'Ty vole, are we in trouble? I'll let Yura deal with it.' That was one encounter she was not eager to steal from him.

The doctor's clinic was a short building on the left side of the street. It had been painted white to differentiate it from the surrounding architecture, with a large red cross on one side of the door.
As they neared it, Angel's grip on Fox's arm tightened. She was taking steps with increasing trouble. Even the soothing presence of her companion didn't help much.
She stopped in front of the building so suddenly Fox nearly stumbled. She was visibly shaking, her face a mask of utter panic.
"Angel?" he asked gently. "Is the doctor a bad man?"
She shut her eyes tightly and slowly shook her head.
"Then why?"
"I don't like doctors." she answered even more quietly than usual. "They cause pain."
"Lady," the deputy interrupted. "you're seriously injured. Please be reasonable."
"No. I don't want to go."
"If it would help..." Lea said. "...I feel better already." Leo added. "So it's not necessary..." "...for us to go inside." Lea finished.
The deputy wasn't convinced. He grabbed Angel by the arm. "Come now, Lady. It's for your own good," he said, dragging her to the door.
"NO!" a piercing shriek startled everyone but him. After all, dragging people out, sometimes kicking and screaming was a part of his job description. Angel was trying to grab onto Fox with all her might, and when that was impossible, to random objects.
"Stop!" Fox suddenly yelled himself, pointing already reloaded Betsy at the guard. He'd never seen Angel speak louder than in a whisper, not to mention yell, and so it completely stunned him when she did. Seeing her being dragged against her will reminded him of how the slavers operated way too much for comfort. "Let her go!" Lea joined him, with her crossbow trained on the deputy as well.
Rico stopped. He didn't expect this man to pull a gun on him, much less over an apparently hysterical woman. The girl might be her daughter. That he could understand - children got kinda worked up over the arrest of their parents, but still...

"Pardon me." The man was slightly shorter than average, with his most distinguishing feature being a rather large nose, he spoke to Mirka. "My name is Albert Spangler, and I am a trader by trade. I'm thinking of moving on, but travelling alone is too dangerous; do you mind if I join you as far as the next town?" He smiles in a friendly manner. "I'm afraid I'm really not much good at fighting, but I do bring with me my own supplies."

"Alright, I thought they might... Let's hurry," Gabriella replied before the two quickly set off to where they had seen the traders and their truck. They moved swiftly through the crowd, doing their best not to jostle anyone or cause any unrest. Soon, they were in front of the truck by which the traders were doing their recruitment.
She heard the man in front of them also speak of joining the group, and she hoped they weren't filled up. It was the first job she had seen that promised a good way to get food and water as well as get the experience of exploration. She wasn't too bad with her revolver, and she had been scavenging in port cities and old ships before... She hoped it was enough for this.
"We are also interested," Gabriella said, raising her hand.

Memmon smiled weakly, and said "I would like to join too." as he scooted a little closer to Gabrielle.

Kawako tips the brim of her hat upwards a bit as soon as the gunfire goes off, attention pulling away from Mirka and Yura a moment, her head swiveling towards the sound. The deep black pupils of her mahogany eyes shrink considerably, vision like binoculars as they focused on the situation.
Although the scuffle seemed to be resolved quicker than it occurred, though there were still injuries to tend to, the woman couldn't help keeping her eyes on them... especially with the quick glimpse of snow-white feathers in the growing, curious crowd. "Mnm... I'll take wet dog. Jus' toss my stuff in the truck, I'll be back in a sec."
The tall lady strides over through the crowd, pushing aside those eager to see the red-eyed girl known as Angel. "Step aside, move it yah lot!" She hollers to get the people to move, her long wings flaring out to keep them away as she approaches Angel and her posse. Kawako removes her hat once she draws close, her headfeathers finally in view along with her odd, wing-shaped, feathery ears. "Easy there you two. No need to cause more trouble, right?" Hands are placed gently upon Fox's and Lea's shoulders as she comes up between them.
Her eyes, with pupils now back to normal, shift over to Angel as she smirks softly, her wings nestling back into their proper place behind her. "Scuse me, chickadee, but would you rather I help with that shoulder of yours instead? I'm more familiar with feathery folks than these people here are. And I might have somethin' for you too, little man." Her last sentence is pointed at Leo as Kawako sends him a smirk.

Edwin snorted in response to Mirka's comment. "I heard that...," he grumbled to himself, unable to help but sniff himself briefly wondering if he really DID smell like wet dog.
The commotion of the market had started to wear thin on his nerves. Now he knew why Mirka and Yura had wanted him to stay outside the gate. Glancing over towards Kawako heading over towards whoever had been shot quickly, Edwin scooped up his rifle, b-lining it towards the back of the Ural where he could get some peace of mind. He was already itching to get moving again. No love for crowded areas.

- Whoa, hold on!
The guard let go of Angel as soon as Betsy moved in his direction. It took him a conscious effort not to draw his own gun. The least Rico wanted was another shootout.
- Relax, folks. No pressure.
The deputy lifted his hands up, slowly, palms out. With two crossbow(-thing)s pointed at him, this action went against all his instincts and training. But if he wasn't able to control his instincts, he wouldn't be a deputy.
- Sorry ma'am, shoulda known better. - Rico turned to Angel. - You do look awfull, though. Seeing the Doc won't harm you, she's a kind old... - ...Or you could use a medic you trust. If you need anything, medicine-wise, just ask.
The guard addressed Fox, perharps thinking he's the leader.
- Whatever your choise, please, wait for the Sheriff. He has some important stuff to say, not to mention formal apologies.

"Don't take too long or we'll leave with your stuff!" she called after Kawako, before turning to the nose-y stranger.
The man was even slightly shorter than Mirka; she had to look down at him as he spoke to her. Her mouth skewed in displeasure at the fact that he wasn't really joining them, but simply hitching a ride, so to speak. Though, it was indeed safer to travel in larger groups - if worse came to worst, they could ditch him to stall any persuers. "Well, mmm, OK... pull up your ride behind ours." She gestured with her thumb back at the trailer and moved on to the real recruits, picking up Kawako's backpack on the way. Everyone was pouring in at the last minute, it seemed.
"Hey there, lovebirds," were the first words that flew out of her mouth. "Let's make this quick: What are you two good at?" she asked skeptically, looking them up and down.

Angel mustered the guard and later Kawako in silence. Why was everyone eager to help her? It was just an simple fleshwound, nothing fancy after all. Angel got used to her high regenerative nature that even serious looking woulds that would startle everyone else were no big deal for her at all.
"Thank you for your offer...", Angel spoke in her usual soft whisper, "...but this probably will cost you more time than your friends are willing to wait for", Angel gestured in the trucks direction. Angel looked back to the guard, "it will heal with time, i don't need any doctors"
Then she looked back at Kawako and added with an weak smile "I'll accept your offer if you want to help. But then your friends might be away without you", she finnished with an slight worried expression.
Angel usually did thrust noone, tehre was only one reason why she gave that little trust to Kawako, because she had feathers and wings like herself. Such creatures were a rare sight and it would be unlikely that they would harm the representative other 'relative'. At least this was Angels opinion on it.
