So, I got an idea for a new RP, some of you have heard about and some of you haven't, which will take place on a beach, or even the entire coast. But I need help naming this place. Even if you don't plan to join, I'd appreciate a vote for the one ya like best =D
As for the beach itself, it's typically empty and calm, with few residents. It is no tropical beach with palm trees. The weather is usually chilly and the sky grey and overcast. The waves can get pretty high. Winter is known to have storms and be very cold, while summer there is comfortably warm with a light breeze. The sand is almost white like ash and feels soft underfoot. The beach is mostly surrounded by steep cliffs and it is easier to reach it by boat than by climbing down to it. The residences are built out of driftwood and other debris that washes up on the beach, and are located some ways up the cliffs where high tide and storm waves won't reach them.

I like Wayra, myself. It's nice and simple. I don't know why people always jump on the long, syllable-intensive, impossible-to-pronounce ones. Sometimes simple is better.
So like... any idea what it'd be about?

... Kodjiwhe is hard to pronounce? "Kod-gee-way" ... or is it we? :\ that and I've had experiences... and learned that the more complex and unique it seems, the better, as long as it remains pronouncable.... at least it's better than what I DO have in mind for the list of names. Which all are related to Old Native American, among other things. .....Villagers, mostly sea-folk, fishermen, Modern, less technology, and companies.... That's about all I'm spoiling for Shani, lest she has Nellie sit on me. :C *does not want.*

Oh jee, sounds delightfully droll. =| I didn't realize it was such a big secret.

Well she never told me how much I was allowed to let people know about. So don't get mad at me, Okay? I don't need to be the villain AGAIN after being the moderater that everyone hates.
Infact, I don't even know the really CONCRETE details! Just that it's a fishing village, with two possible plots, one involving ufos, and the other involves a War of Companies. and what is already put down by Shani.

Oh, I do believe we can arrive at several pronunciations for many of these names. Kodjiwhe. To me, I get "Kah-Jee-Hai". I like silent letters and the like. There is no harm in having different opinions about the pronunciations or anything like that. We're all entitled to our opinions on the subject

Different opinions on differerent pronunciations generally leads to severe miscommunications, though. Which is why simpler is usually better. People always go for the more exotic sounding ones and I can totally understand that, cuz I used to do it a lot too. But when I did, people didn't know how to pronounce it, and while I could verbalize it fluently, it was a oral toungue-twister to anyone else who dare speak it. But I digress.
The name of the Island should reflect its origins. So whichever it ends up being should likewise determine the most appropriate name for it. As for me, I would just like to know the limitations of the RP.
And I apologize, neon, I wasn't trying to sound hostile.

The name Kodjiwhe is my fault, actually. Shani needed some extra names for the poll and this popped into my head. Tropi had the pronunciation pretty much right, btw. (Ko-dgee-way, the d is on the second syllable). I do wish I had known that this would be a "beach" of the sort you might find around northern Europe or other temperate climate, rather than the tropics, then I'd have come up with a more appropriate word. Speaking of pronunciations, even if something *does* have a concrete way of being said, many people like to say things their own way even if they know the correct way to call something, like my up-stairs neighbor who would say Ninja Gaiden as "Gay-den" and ignore my attempts to correct him (and lets not forget the people who pronounce Mario as Marry-o ). Not that any of this matters, of course, since online roleplays usually involve text, and the image of a place or person isn't likely to be diminished due to mis-pronunciation unless your char's name is something like "Phugh'ckh"

i'm with Mizzy on the wanting more details thing. A village on such desolate sounding beach does not sound at all interesting. I'm gonna need a bit more detailing about what this involves before I'd be interested.
As for a name, I personally don't care what you call it.

There is no big secret about what it's about. It's just that we're still working out the exact plot. It is a coastal fishing village and most of the inhabitants are artisan fishers. Some make sails, some repair nets, some build ships, and some "comb" the beach for utilitarian purposes Unlike in HE, time-line is modern with a relatively modern level of technology, keeping in mind that this place is remote. The species you can play do have a bit of a limit on them. You can have all sea birds, aquatic species of animals, and whichever mammals tend to live by the shore.... such as crab-eating coons, crab-eating foxes, sea otters, seals, and whatever else have you. One more note: we have two votes (one from Benny and one from Doyle) for birds being able to fly on their own two wings, even as anthros. Anyone else for this idea?

Do you mean wings with feathers like fingers instead of arms/hands or a combination of the two? Because either way I'm for that instead of limbs jutting out of the back. I'm not entirely sure how feasible it would be on an anthro though. The wings would have to be monstrously large and cumbersome. You'd have to have some anthro compromise that isn't 100% humanoid. In my opinion, at least.

Yeah, I'd have to say that having hand-wings is better, because when you look at a bird's bones, it's just like our skeleton, cept the "fingers" are fused together. Another option in form would be an Archiopterix-like wing, hand included, practical, and more possible (I doubt feathers are strong enough to handle heavy objects). Still anthro, but can also still fly.
And Shani, what about the off-beach dwellers, might there be some other animal kinds aside from just beach-lubbers?
And Mizzy, it's alright, it just did sound a bit like I, myself, said something wrong.

Yep, I meant arm-wings, and I suppose they would be longer than human arm length. And speaking of Archaeopteryx-like hands, I wanted Vidya to have such when I was making her. But since Elliot was also making a bird at the time, I talked it over with him, and he said to go with feather-fingers XP
The off-beach dwellers might make appearances too, especially if something in the plot attracts their attention to the beach.

I, personally, would be attracted to the RP if the possibility of fantastical plots were introduced. And by fantastical, I don't mean off-the-wall crazy, but whimsical and mayhaps dabbling in a wide array on themes. Honestly, a slow life on the beach just doesn't have much impact. So I'm crossing my fingers. >.>

Guh, it's no fair. My imagination's already running rampant. I've got ideas for 3 characters now. =/ and I don't even have a clue what the the parameters of the RP are. >.<
