About the setting: - It is a beach, so coastal species are preferred. Inland species would be rare.
- It is temperate, not tropical, so locals would tend to be species who live in temperate regions.
- It is modern in time period, but their technology is undeveloped. (e.g. coal fires or oil lamps still used in lighthouse)
About characters: - If it's extinct irl, it's extinct here.
- If it's a really rare/endangered species, only one char of it is allowed in RP.
- The style is closer to cartoon animal than anthro. So, more like a cross of this and this, and not like this.
- In relation to the previous point, characters' heights are more relevant to their species than to the human range.
About the story: - The story will consist of several fantasyish, mystical plots, which may or may not tie in to one another.
- Each member can contribute a plot or twist to the story, with group approval.
If there's anything else you'd like to know or I forgot to mention, ask away! :3

Well, there's been evidence and so many sightings of thylacines...

"sightings" is not evidence, they're extinct, you told me so yourself, Kep. The only way they could "still exist" is if animals irl slowly developed something similar, and then it's not even a Tas. Tiger, but something altogether different... that, and people may be mistaking a different fauna for it. :\ AND.... Tasmanian tigers are a HOT-INLAND dwelling animal. This is TEMPERATE meaning OCCASIONALLY WARM, and MOST OF THE TIME COLD. I should KNOW, I lived in WASHINGTON, where it SNOWED, for most of my life. and last I checked, Tasmania was warm near all-year round...

2000+ sightings over less than a century (one of which from a former tasmaian park ranger, someone who -knows- what he's talking about), and an expedition that's found evidence of them in southwestern Tasmania (where NO ONE lives), including a PERFECTLY matching paw print in wet mud? Also, that part of Tasmania is much further South; the weather there can change from hot and dry to cold and wet in a heartbeat.
Well, since the tech was undeveloped and such, a sort of late 1800s-early 1900s type of setting came to mind...if that's the case, then they wouldn't even be extinct at that time XP

Wrong side of the world, Keppy. This takes place in the northern hemisphere in place similar in weather (subpolar oceanic climate) as in Maine, Washington, Iceland and England (much of northern Europe in general). Tasmania does fit into the temperate climate figure, but it's weather is completely different, with winter lasting between June and July, of all things Either way, whatever animal you choose to base your character on, it'll have to be something that can survive in a place like this without problems.

it'd basically be the same, then, just at different times of the year and I know they're in opposite poles; I explained that in Talia's profile some.

Woah, hold on. This doesn't even take place in any exact country, location, or... even planet. It's cold, northern-temperate, but allows a mix of species from different hemispheres.
Also, I said that technology is undeveloped. This doesn't mean it actually is the 1900s; the times are very well modern in every other respect.
Species are accordant to our current world. If Wiki shows its concervation status as extinct, then that's what it is.

Alright, as I said to Shani and Vap in IM, I'm having trouble visualizing this setting, a "modern" time without things being, well..."modern". With tech the way it is, my mind keeps wandering back to the 1800s-early 1900s type of feeling...kinda like Flapjack, even (look it up on youtube if you're not familiar with that cartoon).

The village is technologically undeveloped, not the whole island it's on: they've got computers and such, but at best, they have dial up for internet, and their TV may be black-and-white. Methods of transportation may be old cars, like some jeeps or a ford or maybe an F2-50... and boats of course. And they could easily get a lot of stuff they don't have/make through trade from other towns.
It's in the backwaters, where noone really looks.

Alright, now for the setting. Are there any docks/piers/wharfs/etc. used commercially or locally, trade and such?

Omg I are copy-pasted. 83
And also, of course the Boats would be in far better condition/newer/more modern, because they need their boats the most. to both catch sea-animals, and as a slower, but steadier means of transport to-and-from the mainland, where they could trade/buy goods/new boats.
That and it's simply more conveniant to use Oil and Gas lamps when some of the animals you reside with (Eel, Shark, etc.) produce fuel for those things.

I suspect there are Docks/piers (lol boats, d'uh), but as for commercial fishing? eeeeh, perhaps fishing by the local fishermen 1-2 times per week, but not on a mass scale.

well, I meant for larger ships, Tropi

...I highly doubt that because it's BACKWATER, It's VERY unlikely that larger ships would wanna visit this place. As it's either incoveniantly "off the beaten path" or it's just plain not really heard of except by the island locals or by the nearby mainland people who do trade with them.
