"JESMIN! I NEED A PICKUP NOW!"
A blaster shot whizzed over her head, she only just had time to duck behind a pillar. Looking back at her persuers then forward at the gate out to the main landing pad, she decided... to take another route. A dash out the door and a quick glance to either side and she was moving for the forest.
"West side, heavy tree cover about a half kilometer!"
They knew she was coming, apparently. As soon as she made it inside the room, the trader's guards were rushing for her. Alarms had already sounded. Everything that could have gone wrong did, but she was too good for that. A quick shot took the target out anyway, and a few more had cleared a path for the door. How could she have missed the heavy security? It's as if they had just crawled out of the metalwork.
She activated her jets and spun around, still moving towards the trees, and firing at the bike-styled landspeeders that had been rushing towards her with her favored sidearms. The one swerved to avoid the shots, but the other wasn't quite as quick, and took a shot to the chest. His speeder listed to the side, the front guard catching on a rise in the dirt, and spun off to explode to the side. She flipped forward and triggered the boost, putting the jets into overdrive. More speeders were pulling into the chase, and she needed to be in those trees, NOW.
And she soon was. Weaving back and forth through the trees, she glanced behind to note that the drivers were apparently as agile as she was. Greeeeeat. The trees ended. She hadn't realized how fast they were really moving, she was already out the other side of what was apparently a rather small, though dense forest. Glancing back again there were apparently seven... no eight speeders blasting out of the trees in her direction. She really got herself in deep, this time, but a moment later there was a large object flying parallel with her overhead, engines roaring. The ramp was down and a rather sharp looking being stood in the opening with a large cannon held up over er shoulder. It fired, and three of the speeders were caught in the explosion, another two tripping up over the wreckage and going down as well. Both the fleeing assassin and the gunner whooped, and the jets on the pack of the former lifted her up to the ramp, landing carefully. She was glad she was wearing a helmet, because a moment later the other's cannon fired again, this time hitting all but one of the remaining speeders, who decided this was probably a good time to head the other direction.
"Great timing, Nak."
The spiked alien shrugged, responding in a growling tone, "Thank Jesmin." It hit the ramp as the former walked inside, removing her helmet. Finally free of the stuffy thing, the Twi'Lek known as Kii'ssara tossed it to the side, just in time to be tackled from the back by a little silvery creature.
"Crazy buddy-buddy lady returns!"
"Ack, get off Deecee!"
"I was worried crazy buddy-buddy lady would not return to the flying shippy-ship!"
"Yeah, I know, we can talk later! We need to get out of here first!"
Deecee dropped off Kii's back, nodding vigorously. The Twi'Lek threw her helmet onto a table near where Nak was putting things away, and rushed for the cockpit. "Are you injured?" The gentle voice belonged to the just as gentle and graceful Kaminoan known as Loa Kai. "No, I'm fine," Kii blurted out as she rushed by the tall creature. Loa bowed slightly and turned, heading back inside the room she came from. The Twi'Lek literally slid through the doorway to the cockpit, where the Mon Cal, Jesmin, was already handling the escape from the planet's surface and preparing the hyper-drive. "Good work Jez, I think that was your fastest pickup yet." Jesmin nodded but didn't look back at her, though it was obvious there was a grin on her face. Kii' collapsed into the other chair and flopped, sighing. "So we need to return the cargo you picked up in the city to its buyer, notify the 'worm' that his competitor is dead, and pick up the personnel transport for a quick run to a New Republic outpost..."
"Kii', I hate to interrupt you, but I'm receiving a distress beacon from four sectors over..."
The Nova Cross II dropped out of hyperspace in the area of the distress beacon, emanating from a space station. This station seemed to be in a very poor state of repair, possibly recently attacked considering the floating debris, and the light of the yellow star to the side gave it a very eerie appearance. A few lights flickered here and there, some sparks lept into space and died, and pieces of the hull drifted by slowly. It appears that they weren't the first ship answer the call, as other spacecraft drifted lifeless on various sides of the station, some hooked into access ports and others just hanging there nearby. The small planet, possibly a lone moon, that it apparently orbited was a dull, lifeless brown.
The crew were all gathered in the cockpit, and for the first time even Deecee was quiet. The little creature was obviously frightened, and was hugging Kii's armored leg.
"So gang, what do we do."
"Blow it up and keep going."
"There could be people on board!"
"And possibly objects for the betterment of science."
"Screw science, blow it up."
"Alive people! Living!"
"Don't want to enter dark-scary space station, crazy lady make us leave!"
It turned into an argument that lasted several minutes before the Twi'Lek captain finally spoke up.
"Alright that's enough! We're going to go in there and find out what happened. Anyone who doesn't want to can stay here, we need at least one person on the ship anyway, in case of pickup."
"I'm going." Nak said that as she was moving out of the room, obviously going to gear up.
"No no I stay here where it is safe from the dark-scary!" Deecee shifted from Kii's leg to Jesmin's, having decided. Loa and Jesmin agreed with the little furry thing, deciding to stay where it was safe.
"Alright then, guess it's just Nak and I. We'll keep our comms on, constant communication."
Kii' got up and left her chair, which was soon taken by Loa. She would keep the other two company while Kii' and Nak investigated. Jesmin glided the ship carefully up to a latch and connected to the station, Kii'ssara and Nak already in full gear and moving through as soon as it was available.
"Wow, dark in here. And it looks like the place was torn apart from the inside out. Probably an attack, looters maybe? It doesn't look like there was much in the way of blaster fire though, just brute strength..."
The lights from the helmets of the two on the station shined about the room, inspecting this and that. The place was in complete shambles, panels ripped from the walls, wiring strewn out all over the floor, as well as bloody streaks along the floor panels. The emergency lighting was functioning, but poorly, light-strips only really highlighting along the floor to show where the walkways were. The station creaked every so often, groans from the metalwork granting a disturbing ambiance to the situation. The two moved carefully forward, as Jez's voice clicked into the comm.
"Kii', I'm reading another ship entering the system, possibly more. People are coming."
